Community Justice

Community Justice 2We support community justice programs that are informed by an understanding of addiction and its effect on individuals and their loved ones. Our new Community Justice Division is working with programs across the state to increase public safety and Vermonters’ health by addressing the underlying causes of crime, in particular by connecting individuals to mental health and substance use treatment and recovery supports, and other services.

Through Pretrial Services, staff help people awaiting trial to

  • get health insurance;
  • connect to mental health or substance use treatment and recovery supports;
  • remember scheduled court hearings; and
  • find support in the community.

People referred to Court Diversion or Tamarack work with staff to

  • get health insurance;
  • connect to mental health or substance use treatment and recover supports, as needed;
  • repair harm caused using a restorative process; and
  • find support in the community.

Court DiversionProsecutors dismiss the charges against people who complete the Diversion or Tamarack program.
