Office of the Vermont Attorney General

A message from Attorney General T.J. Donovan

June 15, 2018

What We're Doing 1

It’s my job, and my office’s job, to help keep older Vermonters safe and secure. We do that every day in our criminal division by prosecuting physical abuse and financial exploitation. We do that job in our consumer protection division by advocating for older consumers and educating the public on frauds and scams. And we do it in our Human Services Division by providing counsel to the Department of Disabilities, Aging & Independent Living.

The Elder Protection Initiative is a team of attorneys, investigators and staff who work in these divisions. Through this Project, their mission is step outside of their division lines, and to step outside our office’s walls to collaborate with each other, with other agencies and organizations, and with the public in order to accomplish 3 things:

  • Continue the work of our listening tour to stay informed of the greatest common vulnerabilities facing older Vermonters;
  • Based on this feedback, determine how our office can play a role in addressing these systemic concerns;
  • Take action, whether by enforcement efforts, public education, legislation, or other kinds of collaborations.

I encourage you to check in with us regularly. You can follow what we’re doing on this site, and through Facebook and Twitter. And, I encourage you to stay involved in your community.  If you’re looking for ways to volunteer, visit our Get Involved page for ideas and resources. Thank you for all that you do.
