Statement from the Attorney General’s Office Regarding the Lay Committee’s Report on Priest Sex Abuse Cases

August 22, 2019

Earlier this week, my office received a copy of the “Independent Report on Priest Sex Abuse Cases for the Diocese of Burlington, VT. (1950-2019).” We reviewed the lay committee’s report, and are aware of all the names listed.

I appreciate the lay committee’s work and diligence on this matter. The inquiry and subsequent report published by the lay committee is separate and apart from that of the mission of the St. Joseph’s Orphanage Task Force, of which my office is a member.

The criminal investigation being conducted by the Task Force is ongoing. Victims or anyone with knowledge of what they believe may be criminal misconduct occurring at St. Joseph’s Orphanage or elsewhere in Vermont are encouraged to contact the Burlington City Police Department’s phone line at (802) 658-2704 or to complete an intake form available on the Department’s webpage: https://www.burlingtonvt.gov/Police/OrphanageInvestigation.

An update from the Attorney General’s Office on behalf of the St. Joseph’s Orphanage Task Force can be found here.
