Attorney General T.J. Donovan announced the start of the 3rd Annual Lawyers Fighting Hunger Food Drive, a collaboration between the Office of the Attorney General, the Vermont Bar Association, and the Vermont Foodbank. This year’s Lawyers Fighting Hunger Food Drive will run for two weeks, from September 9th through 20th. September is Hunger Action Month. Twenty Vermont law firms and offices have signed up to participate in the event. The Lawyers Fighting Hunger Food Drive aims to raise awareness and fight hunger in Vermont.

“It’s more important than ever that we continue to do what we can to help make sure that no one in our state needs to go hungry,” said Attorney General Donovan. “We know that Vermonters are being forced to make tough choices every day to try and keep food on the table.  I couldn’t be happier with the success that our Lawyers Fighting Food Drive has had in its first two years. I look forward to more success in year three, and I thank the Vermont Bar Association, Vermont Foodbank, and so many Vermont law firms and offices for their help and support of this great event.”

Attorney General Donovan started the Lawyers Fighting Hunger Food Drive in 2017 as an annual event. Since then, Vermont lawyers and law offices have raised over $28,000 and collected over 7,000 food items that went directly to the Vermont Foodbank to help those who need it most.

During the food drive, participating law firms and offices will be collecting shelf-stable, non-perishable food items and/or monetary donations. Food and money collected will go to helping stock the shelves of over two hundred Vermont Foodbank partner food shelves and meal sites around Vermont. Law firms and offices who raise the highest totals during the event will be recognized by the Attorney General’s Office at the Vermont Bar Association’s Annual Meeting at the end of September.
