Overview
Is a career in public finance and business administration in your plans? How about a day filled with a variety of tasks? Are you an organized, detail oriented, muti-tasker? The Attorney General's Office (AGO) seeks a Financial Manager I to bring its three-person Business Office to full staff and provide a path forward in succession planning. This position is located at 109 State Street in Montpelier, and some remote work will be considered. The position reports to the AGO Fiscal Director.
The AGO is comprised of approximately 150 employees, including over 90 exempt Assistant Attorneys General who report to the Attorney General. The AGO is divided into six Divisions (Administration, Human Services, General Counsel & Administrative Law, Civil, Criminal, and Environmental & Public Protection), each with its own funding sources and staff located across the state. The AGO also administers Diversion and Pre-Trial Services, alternatives to the traditional criminal justice system.
The Financial Manager I is responsible for the day-to-day functions and operations of the Business Office. This includes financial transaction tracking, review, approval and reconciliation; auditing; internal controls; fiscal administration of federally funded programs; asset management; contract and grant reviews; and fleet management. The successful candidate must be able to recognize and implement best practices for business office operation and internal controls for the benefit of the AGO. Microsoft SharePoint and Excel are heavily relied upon in the AGO Business Office; intermediate or advanced skills in these programs is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting or a bachelor's degree in any discipline that includes or is supplemented by 20 credit hours in accounting AND two (2) years or more of professional level accounting, budgeting, fiscal auditing, fiscal analysis, federal program fiscal administration or other professional level fiscal operations experience which has included experience managing programs, funding sources or staff.
OR
Bachelor's degree in any discipline AND four (4) years or more of professional level accounting, budgeting, fiscal auditing, fiscal analysis, federal program fiscal administration or other professional level fiscal operations experience which has included experience managing programs, funding sources or staff.
OR
Associate's degree AND six (6) years or more of professional level accounting, budgeting, fiscal auditing, fiscal analysis, federal program fiscal administration or other professional level fiscal operations experience which has included experience managing programs, funding sources or staff.
OR
High School diploma AND eight (8) years or more of professional level accounting, budgeting, fiscal auditing, fiscal analysis, federal program fiscal administration or other professional level fiscal operations experience which has included experience managing programs, funding sources or staff.
OR
One year as a Financial Administrator III with the State of Vermont.
OR
Certification as a CPA.
Special Requirements
For some positions experience working with the VISION system (VISION is the State of Vermont PeopleSoft financial management system) may be required.
For some positions preference may be given to applicants with supervisory or management experience.
