The Vermont Attorney General’s Office (AGO) seeks a talented and motivated attorney to join the AGO’s legal team providing legal services to the Vermont Department of Taxes. This position offers the opportunity to serve the public in an exciting, dynamic practice, and be an integral part of State government, in addition to work-place flexibility and very competitive benefits.

The individual selected for this position will represent the Department in civil litigation in the Vermont Superior and Supreme Courts and provide advice and counsel to the Department’s Property Valuation and Review Division.  The attorney will support a new program at the Department assisting municipalities with the valuation of complex commercial and other unique properties to ensure equitable collection of state and municipal revenues. 

The successful candidate must be a member in good standing of the Vermont bar or be eligible to obtain admission by waiver.  Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to collaborate and work as a team, and at least two years of litigation experience is preferred. 

The position is located at 133 State Street, Montpelier with a hybrid in-office/remote work option.  This is an exempt, full-time position. Salary will be based upon qualifications and experience in accordance with the State of Vermont Attorney Pay Plan and includes the full State of Vermont benefit package.
