Service

Consistent with Vermont Rule of Civil Procedure 4(d), service of adversarial proceedings against the State or its agencies or officers acting in their official capacities should be directed to the Attorney General’s Office. Requests to accept or waive service on behalf of state officers as individuals may also be directed to the Attorney General’s Office.

All questions regarding service should be directed to: ago.service@vermont.gov.

The Attorney General’s Office routinely waives service via Sheriff upon receipt of a Notice of Lawsuit and Request for Waiver of Summons, consistent with Vermont Rule of Civil Procedure 4(l) and Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 4(j)(2)(B). The Attorney General’s Office requests that such documents be emailed to ago.service@vermont.gov. Alternatively, these documents may be mailed to the Attorney General’s Office at 109 State Street, Montpelier, VT.

The Attorney General’s Office reserves the right not to waive service in the event the submission is incomplete.
