Human Services

The Human Services Division of the Vermont Attorney General's Office provides legal services to the Agency of Human Services. Assistant Attorneys General in the Human Services Division represent the Agency and its departments, divisions, and offices in civil and administrative litigation, assist in the legislative and rulemaking processes, and provide legal advice on federal and state health privacy laws.

Legal services for the Departments within the Agency of Human Services are primarily provided by Legal Units within the Division consisting of Assistant Attorneys General with support from paralegals and administrative assistants and legal secretaries. Separate Legal Units are established in each of the following departments and divisions: the Department of Corrections; the Division of Economic Services in the Department for Children and Families; the Division of Family Services in the Department of Children and Families; the Department of Health; and the Department of Mental Health.
