Submitted comments in response to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) request for comments on its reconsideration of the Interim Final Rule issued on July 5, 2016. The Interim Final Rule increased the Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) penalty from $5.50 to $14 per tenth of a mile per gallon (mpg). The Rule also increased the maximum amount to which the agency can increase the CAFE penalty from $10 to $25 per tenth of an mpg. In the Final Rule issued on December 28, 2016, the NHTSA decided that the adjusted CAFE penalty would apply beginning in model year 2019.
